When filing your petition to act as an authorized civil surety, due to the partial shut-down of the courthouse, please be advised of the following:

  1. Each company is to file their petitions with the Clerk’s Office during the deadline period of April 15th through May 15th.
    1. To file the petition, the Clerk’s Office is currently providing on-site services by appointment only.  Customers would need to schedule an appointment for filing a Surety Petition by calling 312-603-5035.
  2. Each company is to send courtesy copies to Judge Raul Vega, Supervising Judge of the Surety Section, at 555 W. Harrison Street, Suite 4400 as well as Alvin Portis, Assistant State’s Attorney, at 50 W. Washington Street, Suite 500.  
  3. Each company is still to provide original wet signatures on the Attorney-in-Fact authorization sheets.  Please send this to Judge Raul Vega at 555 W. Harrison Street, Suite 4400.
  4. Each company is to email their publication request to the Law Bulletin at
  5. All deadlines mentioned in the Civil Surety Packet 2020 will remain the same, until further notice.


The Civil Surety Hearing scheduled for June 26, 2020 will still take place, however, it will be done differently. Judge Raúl Vega will enter the orders, provided Alvin Portis has no objections to the petitions, and the orders will be emailed to the attorneys. Attorneys would not need to be present at the courthouse and will not have to connect to Zoom.
