Bail Hearings

Effective, December 17, 2018 Cook County Cir. Ct. (Pretrial Div.) G.O. 2018-1 (eff. Dec. 10, 2018) is hereby amended as follows:

IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that, effective December 10, 2018, except as otherwise provided herein, the following schedules for initial misdemeanor and felony bail hearings in the circuit court of Cook County for defendants in custody shall apply on weekdays, except court holidays, to all cases filed within the territorial limits of the city of Chicago and shall apply on weekends and court holidays to all cases filed within the territorial limits of Cook County:

 

WEEKDAYS (Monday through Friday), EXCEPT COURT HOLIDAYS

Hearings in cases filed in the court’s Domestic Violence Division shall be held at 555 W. Harrison St., Chicago, pursuant to the orders of that Division.

Hearings for persons detained only on post-arraignment warrants issued by the circuit court of Cook County shall be held at the courthouse location at which the warrant was issued, pursuant to the orders of that court.

All other bail hearings shall be held at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Av., Chicago, as follows:

WEEKENDS AND COURT HOLIDAYS 

All bail hearings shall be held at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, 2650 S. California Av., Chicago, as follows:

Initial bail hearings for cases filed in the Domestic Violence Division shall be heard and then transferred to the part and location of the court where the case is filed; cases heard on Friday or Saturday and transferred within the city of Chicago shall next be scheduled to be heard on the Monday following the bail hearing; cases heard on Sunday or Monday and transferred within the city of Chicago shall next be scheduled to be heard on the Tuesday following the bail hearing; and cases transferred to a courthouse in a suburban municipal district shall next be scheduled to be heard no later than the second regular business day following the bail hearing.

Cases for persons detained only on post-arraignment warrants issued in a suburban municipal district of the circuit court of Cook County shall be transferred to the courthouse location at which the warrant was issued and shall next be scheduled to be heard no later than the second regular business day following the hearing.

All misdemeanor and felony cases in which the defendant is in the custody of the arresting agency at a medical facility shall be heard on the schedule set forth below.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that the sheriff of Cook County shall accept prisoners from the arresting agencies scheduled for initial bail hearings at the Leighton Courthouse every day, including weekends and court holidays, beginning at 6:00 a.m. and until 9:00 a.m.
