The Juvenile Justice Division of the Juvenile Justice and Child Protection Department is established pursuant to the Circuit Court of Cook County General Order 1.2,2.2(a). Cases heard in the Juvenile Justice Division involve delinquent minors, minors requiring authoritative intervention and addicted minors.

Currently, a delinquent youth is any minor who, has prior to his or her 18th birthday, has violated any criminal act as defined as a misdemeanor offense pursuant to the Criminal Code of Illinois.

A delinquent youth is also any minor who, prior to his or her 17th birthday, has violated or attempted to violate any criminal act defined as a felony offense pursuant to the Criminal Code of Illinois. 

The Juvenile Justice Division hears cases involving delinquent minors under 17 years of age charged with felony offenses and under 18 year olds charged with misdemeanor offenses. A felony offense is a crime of a more serious nature than those designated as misdemeanors. The Juvenile Justice Division has an array of services that can be ordered by the Court to help rehabilitate the minor. These services are monitored by the Cook County Juvenile Probation Department. Cases heard in the Juvenile Justice Division include:

minors who have violated any federal or state law, county or municipal ordinance minors requiring authoritative invervention (runaways and those beyond the control of their parents) minors addicted to drugs or alcohol
