    Q. What is the role of the probation officer?
     A. Probation officers conduct social investigations into the backgrounds of minors and provide the sentencing judge with the results of the investigation along with a recommended sentence of conditional discharge, probation or commitment to the Department of Corrections - Juvenile Division. If the judge places the minor on probation then he or she is supervised in the community by the probation officer who engages the minor and family with suitable resources which are designed to mitigate subsequent delinquency.
