Internship Program
Undergraduate/Graduate Students
If you are seeking an excellent learning experience in the criminal justice system, consider becoming an intern with the Social Service Department, State of Illinois, Circuit Court of Cook County.

Internship Minimum Requirements
- Completion of two years of undergraduate studies prior to applying for an internship.
- Time commitment preferred is a full semester of 13 weeks with a minimum of two full days worked each week.
- Selection is determined through the application, reference check, an interview process and a criminal record investigation.
- Interns must complete a one-day orientation at the beginning of the internship.
- Assignments will be based on academic background, interest of the student, staffing needs of the Department and supervisor availability.
Experiences and Responsibilities
- Provide referrals and maintain contact with community-based resources to verify offenders' compliance with court-ordered conditions.
- Conduct intake assessments and place offenders in specialized casework units.
- Conduct offender risk/needs assessments and determine level of supervision.
- Learn how the Department tracks and maintains cases through its information systems.
- Learn to use information systems to conduct criminal record investigations.
- Perform community service eligibility assessments and facilitate placement at worksites.
- Prepare and present required reports to court.
