Grievance Procedures

In circumstances where an individual believes the court and its employees have not complied with the provisions of this policy, an individual has a right to file a grievance.  The grievance shall be filed within seven (7) days after the person filing the grievance becomes aware of the action or inaction in response to a request for accommodation.

The grievance shall be in writing using a grievance form

The grievance may be mailed to:

Chicago, Illinois 60602

The grievance form may also be-mailed to the Court Disability Coordinator at  or sent via facsimile to (312) 603-1929.

Within seven (7) days of receipt of the grievance, the Court Disability Coordinator or a designee may meet with the grievant, either in person or by telephone, to discuss the grievance and possible resolutions if the Court Disability Coordinator determines that such a meeting would be helpful in reaching a determination.  Within seven (7) days of the meeting or within 14 days of the grievance, if there is no meeting, the Court Disability Coordinator shall respond to the grievance in writing and, where appropriate, in a format accessible to the grievant.

If the response of the Court Disability Coordinator does not resolve the issue to the satisfaction of the grievant, the grievant may, within seven (7) days of the written response of the Court Disability Coordinator, appeal the decision to the Chief Judge or a designee.  The appeal may be sent via e-mail to or mailed to the Chief Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County, 50 West Washington Street, Suite 2600, Richard J. Daley Center, Chicago, Illinois 60602.  The appeal must be in writing and set forth the reasons for the appeal.  Within fourteen days of the receipt of the appeal, the Chief Judge or a designee will respond in writing with a final resolution of the appeal.
