George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse

General Information

The George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse is home to both the Criminal Division and Pretrial Division
The Criminal Court Administration building is also attached to the courthouse and shares the same security entrance.

Be prepared to show your jury summons or your Employee ID card to the Sheriff's Deputy upon entering the building.

Parking and Directions

Public Transportation:
All Cook County Courthouses can be reached by public transportation. To create an itinerary over the phone, or for the most current routes and schedules for both city and suburb via – ADA ParatransitCTAMETRA or PACE Bus, call the RTA Travel Information Center at (312) 836-7000 or visit their website for information and use the trip planner.

Parking:
Parking is available to jury members, attorneys, members of the Chicago Police Department, subpoenaed witnesses and family members, and criminal court staff. The parking lot and parking structure are located off of the southeast corner of the intersection of 26th Street and California Blvd. Note that the court buildings are located on California Avenue, and parking is located on California Boulevard.

If you park in one of the nearby pay lots, you will be responsible for any parking costs. If you park on the street, you will be responsible for any meter fees and any costs associated with parking violations, including fines and towing.

    ADA Accommodations available at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse include:

    • American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL)
    • Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)
    • Assistive Listening Device (ALD)
      • Earphones for the hearing impaired for use in court are available in the Presiding Judge’s Office. The courtroom clerk will order them by request.
    • Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) 
      • CART is an interpretive captioning service only, and does not maintain or provide transcripts of the proceedings.
    • Parking spaces for persons with disabilities in the parking structure.

    The George Leighton Criminal Courthouse Children's Room is closed until further notice.

    The Circuit Court of Cook County provides Lactation Rooms for nursing parents who are visiting our courthouses. Room 102-A is designated as the Lactation Room at this location and is available between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

    Note for Jurors: Nursing parents who are called for jury duty can request access to a private space, upon their arrival to the Jury Assembly Room, in any court location. The Office of Jury Administration staff will direct individuals to these spaces upon request.

    The Interpreter Services Office within the Leighton Criminal Courthouse is located in Room 4B02 and can be contacted at (773) 674-3210. Foreign Language Interpreters are available upon request.
