Courtroom Information for the Fifth Municipal District

The Fifth Municipal District is organized by courtrooms, key dates, judicial assignments and standing orders.

Traffic and misdemeanor cases (with the exception of domestic violence cases) are scheduled by use of the “key date” system. Under the “key date” system, each municipality is assigned certain day(s) of the month for its cases. The key date system allows police officers and other enforcement officials to attend court on a regular basis and still be able to carry out their other duties away from court.

Felony, domestic violence and civil cases are scheduled in the courtroom as assigned by individual calendars per the judge hearing the case.

Fifth  District judges are assigned to courtrooms by the Presiding Judge of the Fifth Municipal District. Assignments change at the Presiding Judge’s discretion and are made by court order.
