Official Court Reporters

The duty of the Official Court Reporters Office is to record certain court proceedings verbatim either through the taking of stenographic notes or by an electronic recording system approved by the Illinois Supreme Court. The Office ensures that all transcripts prepared as the official record of court proceedings are prepared pursuant to applicable Illinois Supreme Court rules.

The Office of Official Court Reporters employs 172 court reporters and 20 digital recording court specialists.

Transcript orders must be placed in person or by phone at the designated location.

    Ordering Transcripts from Digital Recordings

    The following courtrooms use digital audio recording on a daily basis for the official court record:

    Domestic Violence Courthouse
    Domestic Violence Division - Misdemeanor and felony courtrooms
    Rooms 202, 301, 401, 402, 403

    Transcripts of digitally recorded court proceedings must be ordered and transcribed through the Office of Official Court Reporters:

    No audio or portion of audio may be released to an attorney or the public.  Also, there is only audio, no video.

      Traffic Section - Misdemeanor traffic courtrooms
      Rooms 401, 402, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 408, 409, and 410

      Forcible Entry and Detainer Section - Eviction courtrooms
      Rooms 1302, 1306, 1402, 1404, 1406, and 1408

      8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
      Monday - Friday, except court holidays

      Required Information

      Be prepared to provide the following information when placing an order for a transcript:

      • Name, address and telephone number of party placing order
      • Date of hearing
      • Case name
      • Case number
      • Branch or courtroom number
      • Name of judge

      Forms of Payment Accepted

      Only cash (must be exact change), check or money order accepted. Credit cards are not accepted.

      • A deposit may be required prior to order being processed.
      • For all transcript orders, the balance is due upon completion.

      Rates

      Transcript page rates are established through union negotiations and are as follows:

      Regular Delivery

      Approximately 3 weeks

      Original Transcript$4.00 per page
      Copies (Public)*$2.50 per page
      Copies (Government Agencies)*$0.50 per page

      Expedited Delivery

      When the party requests delivery of a transcript more than 24 hours but less than seven (7) days from the request or proceeding

      Original Transcript$4.75 per page
      Copies (Public)*$3.00 per page
      Copies (Government Agencies)*$0.75 per page

      Daily Copy Delivery

      When the party requests delivery of a transcript within 24 hours from the request or proceeding

      Original Transcript$5.50 per page
      Copies (Public)*$3.50 per page
      Copies (Government Agencies)*$0.75 per page

      *Copy rates apply when a copy of a transcript is ordered within seven (7) days of the original transcript being produced.  If a transcript is ordered after seven days of the original being produced, original transcript rates apply.

      * Copies for indigent defendants are provided free of charge (included in the $4.00 page rate). The same transcript required to be filed later for subsequent appeal(s) may be charged at the copy rate.
