Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program
The goal of the mediation program is to deliver critical services to Cook County homeowners in crisis as early as possible once the foreclosure process begins. As part of the program, homeowners who have received a summons to appear in court will have access to housing counseling and legal assistance at no charge.
With the support and information provided through the mediation program, homeowners in foreclosure will be able to explore their options to either stay in their homes or negotiate a respectable exit.
To schedule a free meeting with a housing counselor – the first step in the mediation process – homeowners who have received a court summons can call our toll-free helpline at (855) 452-2637 [(855) IL-CCMFP]. An online appointment request system will be available in the near future.
Homeowners who are concerned about their mortgages, but who have not received a summons from the court and are not currently in foreclosure, should contact Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt (CCLAHD) at (855) 956-5763 or cookcountylegalaid.org.
